Meaning & Analysis
Created in 2014, this lithograph by Tracey Emin forms part of her series The Last Great Adventure Is You. The print is executed in two colours - blue and black - and reveals Emin’s process of working directly with the print and use of hand drawn plates. At the centre of the composition, Emin’s nude figure is rendered with fluid lines, and is framed by a painterly wash of blue ink around the left corner of the work.
Similar to other works in her acclaimed series, Inside Your Heart reveals Emin’s increasingly mature approach to capturing her own nude form. This particular work, and the series from which it originates, documents Emin’s truthful representation of her womanly form. With her distinctive use of negative space and fluid handling of line, Emin spontaneously captures the feminine curvature of her body and offers viewers a glimpse into her ever-changing perception of self and body.
