Meaning & Analysis

The print was initially shown at the Imitate Modern gallery in London, where it was part of an exhibition with the same title that included a variety of canvas prints, sculptures, and light boxes.

The piece is both a tribute to the forward movement of Stik's career and a demonstration of how movement influences the act of seeing. There is a certain absurdity in the picture, perhaps, in that the stickman is not clearly walking; there is just the faintest sense of movement. The most tangible evidence of motion is the figure's unequivocal glance to the left, which forecasts the figure's forward progress.

Walk is an inquiry into the fleeting quality of vision and the movement inherent in perception, especially in relation to the urban environment, in which street art is observed in movement.
