David Hockney’s The Weather Series (1973) is gaining momentum. With just two full sets ever sold at auction and all six individual prints setting new records since 2021, this series is quietly establishing itself as one of Hockney’s most collectable and investment-worthy portfolios.

Drawing inspiration from Japanese ukiyo-e prints, The Weather Series blends Eastern visual tradition with Hockney’s distinctly modern aesthetic. Each lithograph – Sun, Rain, Snow, Mist, Lightning and Wind – captures natural phenomena through flat colour planes and stylised outlines. Each is signed in coloured crayon for added rarity and texture.

From 2020 to 2025, the series recorded a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 16%. Top-performing prints like Rain have sold for over £107,000, while Snow achieved £81,900 in 2025 – up 61% from the previous year. Even mid-range works like Wind and Mist posted consecutive gains, demonstrating broad collector interest and market resilience.

As more buyers seek works with narrative depth and visual impact, The Weather Series is emerging as a smart acquisition. The low number of prints from this collection entering the market – especially in strong condition – points to continued growth potential.
