British artist Tracey Emin’s Rabbits, It’s For Life from 2005 is a delicate offset lithograph on paper, produced in support of the Teenage Cancer Trust. The honest and humorous print features Emin’s simplistic line drawing and scratchy handwriting. The work was executed as part of a signed and limited edition of 2000.
Emin was born in south London in 1963, into the thick of a blooming technicolour age referred to as ‘The Swinging Sixties’. The period marked the beginning of a youth-driven cultural revolution, besides marking the birth of third-wave feminism.
Emin’s drawings, which lie at the heart of her most vulnerable artistic creations, are filled with allegories and manifest how outstanding of a draughtswoman she really is. She is an expressionist whose jagged contours convey emotion through the tone and texture of a roughly, rapidly scrawled line. Her drawings showcase the ever-changing reality and most extensive experience of humanity imaginable. The artist hones her illustrations consciously, manifesting raw sentiments through what might perhaps be considered the most fragile art form. Emin recognises that through this medium she can reveal both the unique beauty and the disarray of existence.
Emin produced her Rabbits, It’s For Life poster for the Teenage Cancer Trust in 2005. The work depicts a number of rabbits alongside a nude female figure. The text at the top states “Remember Easter - It’s Not Just for Christmas”, while the slogan at the bottom reads “IT’S FOR LIFE”. The work was exclusively commissioned and only available at Selfridges in London. It was originally supposed to be used as seasonal wrapping paper.
