Originally displayed as a series of animations based on double and triple LCD screens, View Of Lake Kawaguci With Japanese Maple And Kagami-Fuji From Route 21 is a print from Julian Opie’s Japanese Landscapes series from 2009. Created using computer drawing programmes to manipulate digital photographs, these prints were inspired on a trip taken by the artist around Mount Fuji in Japan.
Opie takes inspiration from Utagawa Hiroshige for his Japanese Landscapes series and is indicative of the artist’s extensive knowledge of Japanese art. View Of Lake Kawaguci With Japanese Maple And Kagami-Fuji From Route 21 shows a serene image of a lake with a mountain in the background, reflected in the water. The close foreground is taken up by a tree and foliage, working to frame the composition.
