An Imaginary Landscape is a lithograph executed in 1969 in an edition of 75. Executed by the much loved British artist David Hockney, this lithograph was created by the much loved, versatile British artist David Hockney.
An Imaginary Landscape, executed by David Hockney in 1969 and released in an edition of 75, depicts geometric forms, set on a flat brown surface. The subject matter, form and composition are radically different from what we typically expect from Hockney: much loved for his vibrant, energetic depictions of the natural world or honest, intimate portraits of himself and loved ones. The stern composition and hard-edged forms of An Imaginary Landscape contradict all that we assume a Hockney painting would look like. The shading and shadows cast by the forms suggest a light source situated on the left hand side of the composition.
