Meaning & Analysis

H8-3 Forever is part of a series of four limited edition prints, Fruitful and Forever, which were made by Hirst to support Save the Children. The initiative was organised in collaboration with the Fondazione Prada. The profits from the series of prints were donated to Save the Children’s Italian campaign “Riscriviamo il Futuro” which aimed to support Italian children from disadvantaged backgrounds who were affected by the school closures during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Each print in the series shows a close-up section of a larger canvas. The prints showcase the magnificent details of the canvases which are often overlooked by the viewer. The close-up draws attention to the spectacular texture obtained from layering paint on canvas, inviting the viewer to appreciate the materiality of the work. The Fruitful and Forever series is part of Hirst’s series of Cherry Blossom paintings. In this series, Hirst depicted beautiful Cherry Blossom trees, drawing on the work of Pierre Bonnard, Claude Monet, Vincent Van Gogh and the Pointillist technique developed by Georges Seurat.

  • Damien Hirst, born in Bristol in 1965, is often hailed the enfant terrible of the contemporary art world. His provocative works challenge conventions and his conceptual brilliance spans installations, paintings, and sculptures, often exploring themes of mortality and the human experience. As a leading figure of the Young British Artists (YBA) movement in the late '80s, Hirst's work has dominated the British art scene for decades and has become renowned for being laced with controversy, thus shaping the dialogue of modern art.
