Meaning & Analysis
H1-9 Enter The Infinite Glory is a Jacquard-woven tapestry produced by the critically acclaimed contemporary artist Damien Hirst in 2016. The tapestry comes in a limited edition size of 20 and depicts a pattern composed of blue and green thread against a white backdrop. The blue and green tones are accompanied by red and yellow thread which complements the cool colours. The pattern is marked by symmetry and precision which seizes the viewer’s attention and probes them to look closer at the various loops of thread which come together to form the mesmerising pattern.
The tapestry is one of twelve square tapestries which come together in Hirst’s Enter The Infinite collection. Each tapestry follows a similar formula using red, blue, green and yellow thread to produce kaleidoscope patterns through the use of a Jacquard loom. The Jacquard loom was invented in 1804 by French weaver Joseph-Marie Jacquard. Hirst’s use of the loom captures the artist’s desire to experiment and his aptitude for exploring new artistic mediums.
Making a name for himself in the 1990s as one of the leading figures of the Britart movement, Hirst has had a lengthy artistic career in which the artist has produced a wide variety of artworks across different mediums, from sculptures to paintings, interactive installations to prints.
