This signed print captures one of Tracey Emin’s romantic works from her Neons collection. At the centre of a rosy-pink heart are the poetic words “You Loved Me Like a Distant Star” executed in Emin’s distinctive handwriting with turquoise blue neon lights. Set against a black background to foreground the ambient lighting, Emin’s signature appears below the heart in white.
Poetic and romantic, You Loved Me Like A Distant Star is a poignant work about love and longing. Like many of Emin’s other works in our Neons collection, the piece captures these lyrical words in her instantly recognisable handwriting. Contained within an illuminated pink love heart, the work carries overtones of intimacy and therefore speaks to a universal audience about the sometimes painful longing for a distant love. Coupled with the handwritten element of the work, the illumination of the neon light itself - like the distant star she refers to - is best seen in the dark. The work is therefore typical of Emin’s oeuvre in its exploration of love, loss, and longing.
