This poignant and emotive etching was created by Tracey Emin in 2010, and forms part of the Nude Drawings collection. At the centre of the composition, a nude female figure is depicted lying on a thin bed with one knee bent in the air. This bed is set on a carpet, and the compositional lines created by this leads the viewer to the words at the top of the work, which reads: “I said there is no time left. A deep intense sleeplessness. No time for heart. No time for love.”
Known for her poignant mingling of text and image, Emin envelopes her work with sentiments that are often universally relatable. No Time presents Emin’s nude figure, sprawled across a clinical-looking bed. The relative lack of intimacy in this etching is pronounced by the emotive words at the top of the composition, which seem to highlight a sense of hopelessness. Like her wider oeuvre, No Time is a work inspired by Emin’s own life experiences, and captures the artist during a personal emotional struggle.
