Meaning & Analysis

Made for Over the Influence, a Los Angeles and Hong Kong-based gallery, this piece is perhaps one of the most poignant and significant of Invader’s production, epitomising the artist’s philanthropic work. Having held different solo exhibitions for Over the Influence, one in 2018 entitled Into The White Cube in Los Angeles and the most recent one in Hong Kong entitled Hanging, Invader partnered with the gallery in 2017 to distribute a very limited set of this Invasion Kit.

The Kit was made especially for Médicins Sans Frontièrs (Doctors without borders), an international humanitarian organisation providing medical care in conflict zones and countries affected by endemic diseases. Thus all the profits made from the sales were directed automatically to help the organisation.

This is the first time in which Invader makes explicit his philanthropic engagement, making this piece an incredible and invaluable collector’s find.

  • Anonymous street artist Invader adopted his pseudonym from the 1978 arcade game, Space Invaders, and has continually paid homage to retro, 8-bit video games throughout his career. His work has evolved from the original Space Invader motif since the early 2000s, with other icons such as Pac-Man, Pink Panther and even the Rubik’s Cube becoming staples in his imagery. Invading urban landscapes with his distinctive pixelated mosaic creations, Invader transcends the boundaries of traditional street art by combining playful nostalgia with an urban twist. His unique fusion of retro aesthetics and contemporary commentary has solidified his place in the global art scene.
