The Arrival Of Spring In Woldgate East Yorkshire 31st May 2011 - No. 1 by David Hockney, created in 2011, is a digital print depicting a vibrant spring scene in East Yorkshire. Utilising iPad technology, this piece captures the teeming greenery and dynamic colours of the countryside.
The composition is dominated by a dense canopy of trees, with a magenta path leading the viewer’s eye into the depth of the scene. The path turns from this magenta to a pale green as it emerges from the tunnel of trees, drawing the viewer to a vanishing point in the middle of the composition. Hockney’s technique involves layering colours and textures, giving the print a sense of depth and movement, while alluding to the different textures in this man-made and natural scene. This work is part of a larger series, The Arrival Of Spring, that documents the seasonal changes in Woldgate, reflecting Hockney’s deep connection to his native Yorkshire.
