Meaning & Analysis

H8-1 Fruitful is part of a series of four limited edition prints, Fruitful and Forever, made by Hirst in support of Save the Children. The initiative was organised in collaboration with the Fondazione Prada. Each print is a close-up image showing the tiny details of a larger canvas and capturing the spectacular effect created by layering thick paint on canvas. The profits from the series of prints were donated to Save the Children’s Italian campaign “Riscriviamo il Futuro,” which can be translated in English as “Rewrite the Future.” The campaign aimed to support Italian children from disadvantaged backgrounds who were affected by the school closures due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Bright colours dominate this print, making it captivating and exciting to look at. Hirst’s use of bold and vibrant blues, yellows, reds and greens reflect the artist’s love of colour.

  • Damien Hirst, born in Bristol in 1965, is often hailed the enfant terrible of the contemporary art world. His provocative works challenge conventions and his conceptual brilliance spans installations, paintings, and sculptures, often exploring themes of mortality and the human experience. As a leading figure of the Young British Artists (YBA) movement in the late '80s, Hirst's work has dominated the British art scene for decades and has become renowned for being laced with controversy, thus shaping the dialogue of modern art.
