This signed screen print, Composition With Circles 2, was released in 2001 in an edition of 30 and a series of four. The print presents circles of equal diameter overlapping at intervals across a rectangular frame. The circles jostle across the surface, cut in half along the edges, creating a kaleidoscopic pattern.
Imploring the viewer to consider how it physically feels to look, Riley’s geometric patterns create perceptual disruption. Enacted with mathematical characterisation, Composition With Circles 2 is exemplar of Riley’s in-depth experiments with form, composition and visual perception.
