Manhattan Bridge, Downtown New York Medium is one of Dylan's many interpretations of the bridge that opened on December 31, 1909, originally designated “Bridge No. 3” during construction. His vivid colour palette and dynamic brushstrokes capture the bridge's integration into the urban fabric of downtown New York, emphasising both its architectural grandeur, its role in daily city life, and the fondness felt by local residents. The work highlights the triumphal arch and colonnade designed by Carrère and Hastings, representing the City Beautiful movement's effort to introduce neoclassical architecture to counter urban decay.
