Sam Cox, better known as Mr Doodle, emerged as a Street Artist from Kent and has become a prominent figure in the Contemporary Art world. Cox's artistic journey began during his childhood, where his drawing skills earned him the nickname 'The Doodle Man' from classmates. This early passion evolved into a distinct artistic style he terms 'Obsessive Compulsive Drawing'.
Cox's art is characterised by its dense, interlocking patterns and characters, creating a visual language that he calls 'graffiti spaghetti'. This style, influenced by Keith Haring and arcade video games, has found its way onto an array of surfaces, from small canvases to entire buildings.
Despite his relatively recent entry into the Contemporary Art scene, Cox has quickly gained international recognition. His work has been exhibited globally and has gained popularity on social media. He has collaborated with major brands, demonstrating the commercial appeal of his accessible and recognisable art.
Cox's professional career as Mr Doodle began to take shape in 2016 with his first major solo exhibition, Attention Seeker, at London's Hoxton Gallery. This showcase saw him cover the entire gallery space with his doodles, demonstrating his interest in large-scale projects.
The artist's rise to fame has been rapid. In 2020, despite the Covid-19 pandemic, Cox's works amassed nearly £4.7 million in sales across three continents. This commercial success was matched by critical acclaim, with his work being exhibited in galleries and museums worldwide.
One of Cox's most ambitious projects to date was the transformation of his own home in Kent. Over two years, he covered every surface of the 12-room mansion with his signature doodles, creating an immersive artwork that garnered significant media attention when revealed in 2022.
Collaboration has been a key aspect of Cox's artistic practice. He has partnered with brands including Fendi, Puma, and Samsung, bringing his art to fashion, footwear, and technology. These partnerships have expanded his reach and demonstrated the versatility of his artistic vision.
